Bali police thwart people smuggling effort News Agency Antara reports that the Bali police successfully thwarted an effort to smuggle more than 50 people originating from the Middle East to Australia via Bali and Madura. At least 475 houses submerged by flooding in Bali At least 475 houses on Wednesday were submerged due to the severe flooding that hit the Indonesian province of Bali, the Antara news agency reported. Three villages, Tinga-Tinga, Celukan Bawang, and Pengulon, were struck by heavy rains in Bali from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. The villages are located in Buleleng district.

Thick smog over Riau because of forest fires Forest fires once again burn forests in Riau province in southern Sumatra. Almost the entire provice is now covered in a curtain of smog. Mount Bromo volcano still on alert level three The Center for Volcanoes and Geological Disasters PVMBG has announced that the alert status of the Mount Bromo volcano in eastern Java still stands firm at level three or 'aware'. The volcano still produces small eruptions frequently and every once in a while a large ash cloud is exhausted as well. Some of them reach as high as 800 meters from the crater.

A total of 157.73 billion dollar worth of goods and services was exported to most countries in the world. December gained the number one monthly export with 16,8 billion dollar in exports.

Ferry fire finally extinguished with rising death toll at 28 Indonesian authorities are expected to begin full investigations into the ferry boat fire off the Sunda Strait that killed at least 28 after all of the fires were extinguished on Tuesday.

Cheap food? To Yogyakarta! Since I lived in Yogyakarta for some two years - yes I do see this as a privilege because most people are not able to do it, thus missing a lot of the real atmosphere of the city, I didn't always keep in mind the fact that Yogyakarta is in fact fairly cheap in several areas of business.

President Yudhoyono orders Indonesians in Egypt evacuated President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says Indonesia will evacuate its citizens from Egypt on military and commercial aircraft as soon as possible. "If we can leave for Egypt tonight, we will," Yudhoyono said last night, as reported by Antara news agency.
